New Switch Time Again

We’ve been gradually transitioning to becoming a 100% Dell switching college. Currently, I manage 216 switches, primarily consisting of the Dell N2048/N3048 range for edge switching, with some older campuses still utilizing Cisco 2960S & 2960G switches.

Seeking to procure 28 new switches, I reached out to our Dell account manager for pricing on N3048EP-ON’s or similar models. Dell informed us that the range was being discontinued and a new edge switch model was in development, but details were under NDA. They offered existing N3048EP stock at inflated prices, which we deemed unjustifiable for classroom deployment.

Despite waiting six months with no updates on the new switches, and an additional three months of silence, we began considering alternative brands. Wanting to maintain simplicity, we consulted with a supplier who mentioned Cisco’s attractive deals on the C9200 range. Though double the price of Dell switches, we proceeded with the purchase.

Approximately two months later, the Cisco switches arrived. (The public Sector buying process is never simple and quick)

Now the fun to install them all.
